2025 had its ups and downs, it’s fair to say.

There were some wonderful gigs, great company, and a heartening response to Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie, my latest song cycle. The final tour run of the year was a double-header with Boo Hewerdine, a brilliant songwriter, performer and first-class road companion.

Then something unexpected happened. I came home after the last night of the tour and, in the early hours, suddenly became very unwell. A high fever followed and I had to cancel five concerts and a writing session I’d been really looking forward to. When things worsened, ambulances were called and I ended up spending nine long, uncomfortable and frightening nights in Yeovil Hospital. My son Joey even flew home from Japan to be with my wife and me during my rather drug-fuelled delirium.

After what felt like every test known to humankind, the cause was finally found: a complicated stomach infection. Recovery took time, and for weeks afterwards I was exhausted and largely bed-bound. Huge thanks to everyone who checked in and sent good wishes. They meant more than I can say.

Now, though, I’m looking ahead with fresh wind in my sails.

Being voted Male Artist of the Year 2025 by FATEA Magazine, and seeing Fire & Dust named Best Album and Best Live Performance by Rock’n’Reel Magazinehas been a real boost.

One of the most meaningful things has been hearing from audiences who’ve discovered more about Woody Guthrie, the man and his life, through the songs and stories. Spreading that legacy feels especially important in the world we’re living in now.

Looking ahead to 2026: The Strike trio and band shows have gone down a storm and we’ll be continuing, including several full band dates with Phil Beer, Marion Fleetwood, Geraint Watkins, Roy Dodds and Simon Edwards. Plenty of solo gigs too, with more announcements coming soon.

Hope to see you out there.

Love, Reg ❤️
